This weeks artist conversation was with Nick Bamford who is a lifeguard and a ceramics Bachelor of Arts Undergraduate and this is his senior year. He gets his ideas from taking items from their original use and putting them into a complex form that one wouldn’t think of and uses lights along with them. He started when he took a ceramics class in High School. He then challenged himself to try to create sculptures that were smaller and he uses items that were readily available to him throughout his life like plaster clay foam and lights. He loves to build and experiment with art as much as possible and loves sculpting things. His favorite artist is Picasso because how he combines different forms especially figurative forms!
His exhibit had a lot of neon lights which automatically made it 10x cooler. It was also quite funny because in the middle of one of his sculptures there was just a random coat hanger, like who would think of that? LOL I loved his sculptures because there was smooch to it; there were so many pieces that made it whole there were too many to count! It reminded me of Star Wars mainly because of the lights and how they were similar to light sabers! Very cool exhibit!
